A lot of people look at the War Memorial and don't realize it was built as a constant reminder of the German pillbox's that were positioned on the beaches of Normandy. Once you know that 200 yards is the physical distance our soldiers had to fight under heavy machine gun fire, you'll never look at the War Memorial on Milwaukee's Lakefront the same again.
